Choosing Right Office Desks

Over 75% of home business owners do not have a designated home office furniture. That is why it is important to choose the right home office furniture. Old Furnitures results in more mess, loss of productivity and sometimes even lead to back or wrist pains too.

You should plan your home office furniture carefully. Choose the right equipment for the right job. Cheap is not always better decision, so stay away from the price purchases. I am not saying don't have budget, have budget but make sure the budgets are realistic as well.

You get what you pay for. Home office furniture requires to store a computer, a storage place for files etc, such as pedestals, filing cabinets or cupboards, and shelving or bookcases. Offce desk or computer desk is keystoner of any home offices.

Desks are available in various options such as deks will have Four legged /Traditional legs. This could be square/rectangular or round and smooth legs. Most of the desks with four legs are classed as a budget range desks.

Cantilever Desks has a "C" framed metal legs that allows greater movement and flexibility. Choose this type of legs for smaller more compact desks, and if you have a very limited space and require more and better leg movements.

Desks are also available with Panel End also called Classic desks. They have solid wood effect panel legs at each side.

After considering the Legs and movements you should also consider what type of desk top you require. Not all desks has a rectangular work top. There are Radial Desks (Left and Right Radials), and Wave Desks (Left and Right wave) too.

Consider choosing a tambour door cupboards against the classic filing cabinets or cupboards. As when you open the filing cabinets or cupboard it takes up some space for the opening. If you choose a Tambour cupboards which are available in all sizes, you only have to slide the doors and as such you are not loosing the floor space when you open the doors.

Finding and choosing the right office and computer desks for a small home office will style your home, and can be of great help to your family members too.

World Inventors of common Office Supplies products

Paperclip

A thin wire that is bent into a looped shape. It holds papers together through pressure. It leaves paper in its original composition without any damage and can be easily removed.

According to history books the original designer of the paperclip never patented. It is also know that Britain were responsible for production of this paperclip back in 1890 by a company called Gem Manufacturing Company. In Sweden Paperclips are more polpular than David Hesselhoff and are commonly know as "Gem".

Stapler

Well I have two of this and most desks has atleast one of this item. Well I am talking about Stapler here. Chances are this are on every single desks or drawers in the World. It will hold not just our documents but when needed will hold your carpet down too.

Samuel Slocum invented stapler with the partnership of John Ireland House. Samuel Slocum's came up with the idea while cleaning / tidying his house. That's why I keep telling my kids to clean their bedroom. Samuel Slocum invented the stapler for holding papers together to make it more easier to hold paper together. In 1841 he patented his idea of sticking pins in a paper to hold them together.

Samuel Slocum died in 1861. But the problem of last staple jamming everytime conitnues.

Bulldog Clip

This is a big brother of a paperclip. Bulldog clips can hold all the big jobs that the little guy paperclip can't handle. You will find Bulldog Clip as a top office supply products in any offices.

Other than using it to hold large amount of papers together, naughty staff have endless fun by clipping it to your ear lob, fingers, cheeks and even nose. Usefull to see what your pain resistance is. Please do not try this at home or work. Instead visit Youtube to watch funny videos.

Hole Punch

Why and How are the questions you have about Hole Punch. A circular razor sharp barrel lets you punch hole in any papers as if you are carrying out a cheese testing session in France.

Most whole punchers this days has a chamber that collects all the waste paper circles. What a fun it is to see a trail from a desk to the bin when you try and discard this paper circles.

Scotch Tape

Scotch Tape just like Kleenex scammed the global customers into thinking their names are synonymous with the generic products they manufacture. You say Scotch Tape and even a child knows what the item is.

So how did the word "Scotch" came about?

Well there is a small story. Original tapes were manufactured by 3M, and this failed to stick. The cheapness of the manufacturing process and non-stickness of the tape was blamed on the bosses who were all Scots. In 1930's 3M introduced a mascot named Scotty McTape (I'm NOT Kidding) and since than the product success has stuck on.

Why not to buy a Cheap Office Chair!

I was in my study room the other night, thinking about office furnitures (as I often do), when I suddenly wondered why customers should not buy the cheapest office chair? Ok this might worry you to the point that perhaps I am suggesting so that we can increase our turnover. But let me assure this is not the case. There are number of studies carried out by the experts on choosing the best office chairs. Here is the low down.

Working in any office typically involves spending a great deal of time sitting in an office chair. To avoid back problems, it's important to have an office chair that's ergonomic and that supports the lower back and promotes good posture.

There are many different types of ergonomic chairs available. Customers buying chairs based on price are not making a right decision. No one type of office chair is necessarily the best, but there are some things that are very important to look for in a good ergonomic office chair. These things will allow the individual user to make the chair work well for his or her specific needs.

So What features should I be looking for a good ergonomic office chair?

Seat height. Office chair should have height adjustable seat. A pneumatic adjustment lever is the easiest way to do this. This will allow a user to have his or her feet flat on the floor, with thighs horizontal and arms even with the height of the desk.

Seat width and depth. Seat should have enough width and depth to support any user comfortably. The forward or backward tilt of the seat should be adjustable.

Lumbar support. Supporting your lower back support in an ergonomic chair is very important. The lumbar spine has an inward curve, and sitting for long periods without supporting your spine leads to slouching (which flattens the natural curve) and strains the structures in the lower spine. You should always look for an ergonomic chair that has a lumbar adjustment (both height and depth).

Backrest. If you are buying an office chair that has backrest separate from the seat, make sure it is adjustable in height and angle. If the office chair has the seat and backrest together as one piece, the backrest should be adjustable in forward and back angles, with a locking mechanism to secure it from going too far backward once the user has determined the appropriate angle.

Seat material. Ok we all know we want a nice fancy chair. However the material on the office chair is also of greater importance. The material on seat and back should have enough padding to be comfortable to sit on for a long period of time. Having a cloth fabric that breathes is preferable to a harder surface such as Leather chair.

Armrests. Make sure when buying an office chair, you think about your arms too. Office chair armrests should be adjustable. They should allow the user's arms to rest comfortably.

BIC Pens - the impact on the environment

Bic products such as Bic Pens, Shavers, Lighters are not toxic and contains few materials, which would impact on the environment.

Did you know that Bic pens can draw a line up to 3km (1.7 miles). That I believe is about 10 times the height of the Eiffel Tower! Bic Lighter will provide about 3000 lights, and shavers well it should give you a weeks worth of shaving.

Bic products are simple, functional and only contain essential components in its use. A true meaning to a word "disposable".

A research carried out on the basis of Eco-Indicator 99 calculated that the average fuel consumed by a small car engine to travel 70 miles would produce 3,200 Bic Cristal pens, or over 2,800 of the Bic Classic Shavers. That really works out about 50 years of shaving... WOW!

Eco-Indicator 99 people worked out that at the end of Bic Pens life the environmental impact was only 0.2%. Overall 90.45% of environmental impacts are the results of using raw materials.
